Emergency Fund

At AKF, we aim to empower as many young girls from underprivileged backgrounds in Ghana as possible through education and mentorship. We understand that financial constraints can often hinder these academically gifted girls from pursuing their dreams. That is why we have recently established an emergency fund to support these girls who are at risk of dropping out due to a lack of funding.

The emergency fund provided by AKF covers various essential expenses such as tuition fees, accommodation, a stipend, and even discretionary costs like funding to participate in graduation ceremonies.

We had a beneficiary named Linda, who before hearing about AKF, had taken a gap year after high school to raise money to fund her studies which sadly depleted after her first year at university. Linda won the dean’s award for the best performing female student with a GPA of 3.98 after completing her first year of studies. When Linda approached us, we did everything in our power to pool together funds, along with another scholarship partner, that would help this bright girl finish her studies. Linda went on to graduate with a first-class honours degree in Finance and graduated as the top student in her class.

Linda’s story, along with several others, made us at AKF realize the necessity of an official emergency fund to be set up to support these girls at risk of dropping out. Currently, we have five girls on our waitlist in need of emergency funding but we are only in a position to support one. By offering this emergency fund, AKF aims to alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by academically gifted girls in Ghana and provide them with the necessary resources to continue their education journey.
