The Story of Akua Kuenyehia Foundation

Changing Ghana, One Girl at a Time

The Akua Kuenyehia Foundation (AKF) is a Ghana-based non-profit organisation founded by the children of H.E Judge Akua Kuenyehia, first Vice-President of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, in her honour.

It is a private foundation committed to the development and empowerment, through formal education, of women in Ghana. The overarching purpose is to nurture and develop a passion for knowledge in Ghanaian girls, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds, and a zeal for service to society by enriching the lives of these young women through educational scholarships and mentorship programmes.

Executive Director

Welcome to the Akua Kuenyehia Foundation, where we empower young girls and champion gender equity through education in honour of our remarkable mother, H.E. Judge Kuenyehia.

At the heart of our foundation is a deep admiration for our mother, Akua Kuenyehia, who has dedicated her life to making a difference. Witnessing her remarkable impact inspired us to create a platform that nurtures and empowers Ghana’s next generation of female leaders. Inspired by our mother’s pioneering spirit and her dedication to gender equity, we founded the Akua Kuenyehia Foundation in 2007. Since then, we have been continuing her work by supporting young girls from underprivileged backgrounds on their educational journey.

We believe education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and inequality. Through our foundation, we provide financial assistance and mentorship programs to ensure that every girl has the opportunity to complete her studies and become a pioneer for the advancement of all girls in Ghana. Through our foundation, we equip young girls with the tools they need to become changemakers in their own right. By investing in their education and nurturing their passion for service, we are sowing the seeds for a brighter future for Ghana.

As Dr. James Emman Kwegyir Aggrey wisely said, “The surest way to keep a people down is to educate the men and ignore the women.” At AKF, we firmly believe that educating women does not only empower individuals but uplifts entire communities. By supporting AKF, you become part of a movement that uplifts girls and empowers them to become leaders who will drive sustainable change.

Our Vision

The vision of the Akua Kuenyehia Foundation is to help educate brilliant underprivileged Ghanaian girls in order to make them pillars of society who will also serve as agents of change in the quest for equal gender representation in all aspects of Ghanaian society.
