Accelerate Her Dream Campaign

About

For years, we have been transforming the lives of bright underprivileged girls in Ghana. Now, it is time to accelerate our impact – to graduate 50 young women in the next five years, equipping them with the education, mentorship, and opportunities they need to lead, innovate, and uplift their communities. Accelerate Her Dreams is more than a campaign; it is a movement to break financial barriers and drive lasting change for gender equality in Ghana.

Across the country, countless talented young women dream of pursuing higher education, yet financial hardship forces them to abandon their aspirations. Many of these girls have the potential to become doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs, and leaders, but without access to university education, their dreams remain just that—dreams. We refuse to let potential go to waste.

In line with the International Women’s Day 2025 theme of Accelerating Action for Gender Equality, the Akua Kuenyehia Foundation (AKF) is launching a bold initiative to raise 1 million cedis to fund university scholarships for 50 deserving young women over the next five years. This campaign is not just about financial aid – it is about creating a powerful ripple effect. When a girl graduates, she doesn’t just change her future; she transforms her family, her community, and her country.

With your support, we can turn ambition into achievement. We can accelerate education, accelerate opportunity, and accelerate HER dreams. Every donation, no matter the size, is a step toward a future where no girl is left behind because of financial constraints.

Now is the time to take action. Join us in empowering the next generation of female leaders and changemakers. Together, we can shape a brighter, more equal future – one girl at a time.

Mercy Tsoedeh's Story

Mercy’s journey through school has not been easy, but she has never given up. After completing University Practice Senior High School, she struggled with two subjects and could not move forward. With support from her church, she re-enrolled at A.A.K. Islamic Senior High School, sat for the exams again, and passed successfully. That moment proved to her that hard work and determination can change any situation. She is now a Level 200 student at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), studying Hospitality Management.

Mercy hopes to become a food scientist or nutritionist, promoting food safety and healthy eating in her community. In the short term, she wants to excel in her studies and gain hands-on experience in the hospitality field. Her long-term goal is to pursue a master’s degree and lead food safety campaigns that help families make better nutrition choices. Mercy has shown strong leadership in every stage of her life. In JHS, she served as a Compound Prefect, ensuring the school environment was clean each day. In SHS, she led Food and Nutrition practicals, helping her classmates prepare for exams.

She also sings in the choir at Perez Chapel International, where she continues to serve others with joy. Money has always been a challenge for Mercy and her family, but she remains focused and hopeful. With the right support, she believes she can complete her education, achieve her dreams, and help others live healthier lives through food and science. Meet Mercy Tsoedeh, a hardworking young woman from Afife in Ghana’s Volta Region who has always loved hospitality and food. She discovered her passion while helping her aunt in a small catering business, where seeing the joy on clients’ faces made her realize how food can bring people together and make a difference.

Harriet Padikie's Story

From the quiet town of Asesewa in Ghana’s Eastern Region, emerges Okai Harriet Padikie — a young woman whose story reflects resilience, humility, and an unshakable belief in the power of education. Raised in a loving family of four, Harriet grew up watching her father till the soil as a farmer and her mother trade goods to keep the family afloat. Their sacrifices, made in silence and love, built the foundation of her dreams. Harriet’s journey has never been easy. There were times when her parents skipped meals, took on extra work, and borrowed money just to keep her in school. Yet, she never allowed hardship to define her — instead, she transformed it into fuel for her determination. Guided by her mother’s quiet strength, she learned early that true success is not measured by wealth, but by how many lives you uplift along the way.

A graduate of Oti Boateng Senior High School, where she studied Home Economics, Harriet now attends the Presbyterian College of Education, Akropong, pursuing a Bachelor of Education in Home Economics. Her favorite subjects — English and Social Studies — nurture her curiosity about people and communities, while shaping her into a thoughtful, compassionate educator in the making. Her leadership journey began in high school, where she organized study groups to help her classmates prepare for exams — an initiative that improved the entire class’s performance.

Beyond the classroom, she volunteers in her community, teaching children to read and write during vacations and supporting youth programs at church. Her kindness and initiative continue to inspire others to believe in themselves. Harriet dreams of becoming a teacher and educational advocate, dedicated to mentoring young girls and improving access to quality education.

Her long-term vision is to establish a foundation that supports underprivileged children — ensuring that no child is forced to abandon their education due to poverty. Through every trial, Harriet has proven that purpose can be born out of struggle. Her story is one of faith, family, and fierce determination — a reminder that even from the humblest beginnings, extraordinary change can grow.

Benedicta Klutsey's Story

Benedicta Klutsey, 20, is a determined and compassionate young woman from Accra, now residing with her family in Kasoa. Her story took a difficult turn early on when a severe accident not only affected her but deepened her family ’ s financial struggles. With four older siblings also pursuing education and a household weighed down by hardship, every step forward required sacrifice. Her mother, once the family ’ s main financial pillar, now battles illness, while her father—laid off five years before his pension—has been unemployed for over a decade. Yet, Benedicta ’ s resilience, curiosity, and drive have kept her moving forward.

A graduate of Accra Girls Senior High School, Benedicta has always been passionate about the sciences. Chemistry, Biology, and Physics captivate her, as she describes science as “ a gateway to discovery.” This curiosity has shaped her dream of becoming an epidemiologist and biostatistician —a path inspired by her desire to study diseases, develop vaccines, and control outbreaks to save lives.

Although she has not yet gained admission to university, Benedicta uses her time productively, teaching children in her community and inspiring them to dream big. She also plans to organize monthly health screening programs to improve access to preventive healthcare in her area, reflecting her commitment to service and community impact.

Benedicta’ s short-term goal is to gain admission into a top university to pursue her degree in epidemiology and biostatistics. Her long-term vision is to work with the World Health Organization (WHO) or the Ghana Health Service as a research scientist, contributing to global health, while also creating opportunities for brilliant but underprivileged students to access education and mentorship.

Bella Lambonii' Story

Meet Bella Lambonii, an ambitious and dedicated young woman committed to teaching and community service. Raised by her aunt in Nkwanta, Central Region, she supported her family by hawking farm produce at the market while balancing her education. A graduate of Abakrampa Senior High Technical School, Bella faced numerous challenges—limited access to textbooks, absent teachers, and financial struggles that forced her to become a day student. Despite these obstacles, she remained focused and determined, borrowing books from peers and putting in extra effort to succeed. Getting into university was an uphill battle. With no financial support, her dream of higher education seemed out of reach.

It was only through the benevolence of a Good Samaritan from her church that she was able to enroll at the University of Winneba, where she is now pursuing Geography. Even then, she had to rely on her savings to pay for hostel fees, and financial instability remains a major challenge.

Bella’s leadership journey is inspiring—she was a Class Prefect in senior high school, often stepping in to teach Social Studies and Government when teachers were absent. In her community, she serves as the Secretary for the Festival Planning Committee, where her efforts have boosted community engagement and increased festival revenue through effective communication. Now at university, she continues to lead as a Course Representative. She believes education is a tool for empowerment, and with the right support, she hopes to focus on her studies, ease her family’s financial burden, and one day empower young girls through teaching.

Daniella Asomani-Ameyaw’s Story

Daniella’s journey is one of perseverance, adaptability, and a strong commitment to education. Raised in Mile 7, Accra, she has faced significant financial hurdles but remains determined to pursue a future in the construction industry. Fascinated by construction, buildings, and architecture, she is currently a student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), studying BSc in Land Economy. However, with family support coming to a stop, she is unsure if she can continue her education. Initially, her family supported her education, covering her senior high school at St. Andrews SHS and first year at KNUST. When the support ended, her mother, who sells “shito”, locally made sauce for a living, took a loan to help pay her fees.

Determined not to defer, Daniella took matters into her own hands, working as a sales personnel during her four-month vacation. She saved GH₵1,000 from her earnings to contribute to her fees, but it was not enough. As a result, she was only able to pay half of her tuition, making her continuation uncertain. Her academic journey in Land Economy has not been easy, but she has shown steady progress and dedication. She has refined her learning strategies, engaged teaching assistants for extra guidance, and continues to push herself to excel. Her leadership skills were evident in senior high school, where she served as Library Prefect, ensuring the library was well- organized and a conducive space for learning. Daniella dreams of successfully completing her degree, furthering her education with a master’s, and eventually owning an architecture and construction firm.

A scholarship would relieve the financial burden on her single-parent household and allow her to focus entirely on her studies. She is committed to overcoming obstacles, refining her skills, and achieving her long-term goals. With the right support, Daniella can turn her vision into reality.
